At 3 AM, the alarm clock goes off. An hour later, we set off from Neumarkt towards Cologne/Bonn Airport. Our flight takes us over Munich to Rome – the flight is "fully booked"
Upon arriving at Fiumicino Airport, we immediately experience our first small nervous breakdown at the ticket counter. Despite the stress, we manage to buy two train tickets in Italian – success!
We take the train to Rome Trastevere. Once we arrive at our Airbnb, we struggle to carry our suitcases up to the fifth floor – only to realize that there is an elevator at the top.
The apartment is really nice, and our host Mario is super friendly. However, the lighting conditions present a puzzle: countless switches, but none seem to control the bathroom light. Later, we discover that the lighting is controlled by motion sensors – even in the hallway, which wakes us up multiple times during the night.
After a short break, we freshen up and walk into the city. We eat sandwiches, drink cappuccino, and try Italian pastries right by the Tiber – they have potential for improvement in taste.
Afterwards, we stroll through Trastevere, take many photos, and let ourselves be carried along.
In the evening, we have our first portion of pasta (Bolognese), with Carbonara still to come. Kathi orders a Peach Spritz – unfortunately, it's far too sweet. Tired and full of impressions, we collapse into bed.
