Day 22: From Alice Springs to Darwin

Published: 23.07.2024

Today we treated ourselves to a late breakfast at 7:30. Then we packed the remaining things. Since our flight to Darwin was only in the early afternoon, we had some time in the morning.

Our first sightseeing stop was the Alice Springs School of the Air. In addition to a short info film, there was information about the history and current activities of this long-distance school, which still offers classes for many children in the Outback today. Currently, about 150 students in a radius of about 1000 km are taught in this way.

Then we continued to the Alice Springs Telegraph Station, where in 1872 one of the 12 telegraph stations of the Australian Overland Telegraph Line was built and the first European settlers settled.

Before heading to the airport, we had a picnic lunch at Telegraph Hill.

We arrived at Alice Springs Airport around 1 pm. The airport is slightly larger than Yulara's, but only slightly so.

After picking up our rental car, we unfortunately had to realize that this time it was a bit smaller. The luggage fit in, but it was too tight on the back seat for the three children. Fortunately, we were able to get a free upgrade, so we are now driving a Mitsubishi Outlander again.

We also found the hotel in Darwin without any problems. For tonight, we have booked a 120sqm business suite. We had dinner at around 20°C on the balcony of our hotel room.
