On Control with CERTUM

On Monday, January 6, I started my internship at CERTUM. In the coming days, I will go on periodic inspections with a safety consultant. Every electrical installation must be checked at certain intervals; for example, apartments and residential units every 20 years. In a nursing home, the entire electrical installation is carefully examined, measured, and checked every 5 years. On Monday and Tuesday, we inspected the Rabenfluh nursing home. I was allowed to participate in many interesting measurements, such as checking the sub-distributions for loose screws with a thermal imaging camera and verifying the protective conductor with the Wheely. I found it incomprehensible that the potential equalization at the gas line and the water distribution was not assessable. To our surprise, we had to note that the sockets installed new here in 2007 are already in a dilapidated condition, and some need to be replaced as soon as possible. Normal wear and tear damage the installation and can lead to dangerous situations, especially when a protective conductor is no longer connected, which means, for example, that no residual current device functions. Unfortunately, I often miss the ambition of electricians during inspections to present a neat job to the customer, a job that is completed. This also includes clean and beautiful labeling.

The insights into the life within the nursing home, especially in the dementia department, were certainly very impressive.

Now, on Wednesday morning, I will attend an NIN2025 training session and in the afternoon check a photovoltaic system. But a new blog post will follow then.
