Tortola, British Virgin Islands
The largest part of the island is covered with bushes as the rainforest was cleared for sugarcane. Road Town is the administrative center of the British Virgin Islands. The island is surrounded by many small islands, some of which belong to the US Virgin Islands, such as St. John and St. Thomas. Today we will be taken to the port by tender boats. It doesn't take long to find an available excursion bus. We hop on the bus, hold on tight, and off we go along steep, narrow roads, up and down, with breathtaking views of the countless beaches and bays. We circumnavigate almost the entire island and make a stop at a turquoise beach. Although the beach is quite crowded, it doesn't bother us. Upon departure, there are problems as parked cars and buses are blocking the way, preventing us from leaving. After numerous attempts to resolve this chaos — even the local pastor has stepped in as a traffic controller — we are finally on our way uphill again. We make it just in time to the tender boat that takes us back to the ship.
