A bit sadly, we left Kangaroo Island; the nature and wildlife had captivated us. Now we were heading back to civilization - and seeing that many animals again seemed unlikely. Well, we were proven wrong. After driving over 500 kg on the freeway, which for us is a developed main road where we pass by small villages, sometimes even marked with the number of inhabitants - rarely more than 200 - we arrived in the evening at our new house in the Grampians National Park. I had searched for quite a while for a somewhat special accommodation and then opted for a house slightly away but still in walking distance to the small village, and that was probably the best decision! Right in front of the house, we encountered about 200 kangaroos, emus, incredibly many birds, and a view of the Grampians that was truly impressive. After a short detour into the village and a small dinner, we sank into bed, tired and full of anticipation. Early the next morning, we stood amazed behind the large windows of our house, observing the wildlife. We saw small red parrots, baby kangaroos that hopped like little balls, only to crawl back into Mummy's pouch immediately. We reluctantly tore ourselves away, but we had a hike in the national park on our minds. We drove to the 'Wonderland Car Park' and started our tour towards the Pinnacle. The trail took us through Australia's Grand Canyon - an entirely different yet very fascinating nature! For almost the entire route to the Pinnacle, we were alone - on the way down, we encountered many hikers who, for us, very unusually, didn't greet or even look at us. That would be unthinkable in our mountains. The view from the Pinnacle wasn't particularly impressive to me; you could see a vast expanse, but when turning your head to the right, everything was rocky and simply mighty. We casually made our way down and climbed repeatedly on rocks, a bit off the path, to absorb the impressions. In the late afternoon, we returned and once again enjoyed the incomparable wildlife that we had. To be able to observe kangaroos from the window of our home - yes, we hadn't expected that when we left Kangaroo Island. In front of the fire, we reflected on the day and relaxed before we - once again early - sank into bed, tired.
