On Kangaroo Island

The two days we spend in the west of the island are enjoyed with and at various natural highlights.
In the morning, we drive in the rain to the Remarkable Rocks and the Admiral Arch. Even though it's a pity to see these two natural wonders not under bright weather, the mood somehow fits this landscape. And another great advantage – we are completely alone and can soak everything in without being distracted by tourist crowds. The large parking lots give an impression of how it looks here in peak season.
At Admiral Arch, we can observe sea lions again, the funniest part was a pool, very close to the rough coast, where the little ones were playing. They jumped like dolphins in this pool, roughhousing with each other and just enjoying being sea lions. For us, it was wonderful to stand there, see and hear the waves (which were incredibly impressive) and watch these little “clowns”.
After warming up with a coffee and a hot chocolate at the Visitor Center, we drove to the very end to Cape Borda Lighthouse. The entire route was a red earthy track, not exactly the best-maintained, we arrived quite shaken at our destination. Here too, we had the whole area to ourselves. On a small and short cliff walk, we marveled once again at the incredible forces of nature. The waves crashed with great force against the rocks, the spray splashed, the sea “thundered”. How small we are in comparison!
After the bumpy ride, we arrived at our cabin about an hour before our koala walk began. That afternoon, early evening, we were on the move for a total of 4.5 hours with a guide, observing koalas, and learning a lot about nature and bushfires.
During the evening walk, we met several of the koalas again, and luck was again on our side, a baby had meanwhile come out of its mother's pouch and was frolicking a bit on the branches. How quickly those hours passed, right in the middle of nature and always looking, observing, and enjoying!
After the next portion of canned spaghetti, we fell asleep very quickly.
The next morning we left the west of the island and drove back slowly towards the harbor over different paths. We visited small local providers and artists, couldn't resist and bought a beautiful koala picture, and visited more beekeepers. However, the biggest highlight was being able to hold a koala at a wildlife center, cuddle it, press our nose into its soft fur, and just enjoy every second with this wonderful animal. Afterwards, we were allowed to feed kangaroos and wallabies, it’s incredible how soft the fur of the kangaroos is!
When we arrived in our new cabin in the evening, we noticed the next koala at the eucalyptus tree right in front of our terrace. How lovely that was!
Neighbors told us that the beautiful glossy black birds are nearby, and we were allowed to almost stroll through the garden of other neighbors to observe these beautiful creatures. How friendly the people are here!
The next morning, we saw that “our” koala had a baby that was curiously looking out of the pouch. Thus, we said goodbye to Kangaroo Island and took the ferry back to the mainland.
