Riding from Featherville to Custer (Gold mining) north of Sunbeam

Published: 19.07.2023

Today (Tuesday) we packed our stuff and rode after 3 days unpacked riding again with all the gear, boxes, duffle bags...

It all started nice and smooth. Going right in Featherville towards Baumgartner and Bounds. All on dirt roads. Taking a left towards Ketchum (fancy skiing village in Sun Valley). Another 40 miles (64 km) to go all on a single lane forest road. We ignored the first 'road closed' sign and rode 20 miles uphill. Then right after the Pass height, there it was ICE and snow. 50 meters (60 yards) long and 2 meters (7 feet) high. Steep!

Okay, no way around. We unpacked and started with the lightweight Husky. Fu... we dug the back wheel in. So the only way was to just hand push!

Troy steered. - I pushed like a Japanese Sumo wrestler. We made it.

Arriving in Ketchum, we had lunch, fueled up gas and food supplies. The direction was Stanley, north along the scenic Sawtooth mountain range.

We decided to do wilderness camping in the Custer valley. Custer is an old Gold mining. More in tomorrow's blog.
