Tag 1: Travel to Copenhagen

Published: 06.07.2019

The journey begins now. Our fear of not being able to travel is over. The doctor gives her approval for the trip. Erik is feeling better again. The infection seems to be over. So we pack our things and load the car, including the roof box. At first, I still expect a place for Erik's scooter, but unfortunately, it has to stay at home. After the obligatory photo in front of the front door, we are ready in the car. We have 5 hours of driving ahead of us without major incidents. Fortunately, the traffic jams are on the opposite side. We reach our daily destination around 3 pm and are happy about the warm welcome from Grandma Regina and Grandpa Frank.

David is up early, he's afraid we might forget him. After a hearty breakfast, we set off for Rostock. The ferry leaves at 11 am. We are an hour early and wait until we can finally get on the ship. Loading the ferry goes quickly and smoothly. We grab a spot in the children's play area and time flies by.

We arrive in Gedser on time, after 1 hour and 45 minutes. The Danes have recently started doing border checks again. However, with a German license plate and showing our passports, we are waved through.

The route to Copenhagen takes 2 hours on the highway and tires me and the children.

Our hotel is located in the Nørrebro district. It is a trendy, multicultural neighborhood popular with students and creatives. We check into the family room and explore the area. The path leads past 2 modern playgrounds into a busy street with many fruit stands, kebab shops, and restaurants. We choose a small pizzeria and enjoy our dinner. Then we stroll back to the hostel and go to bed.
