We have arrived in Bayonne and immediately took a walk through the city late in the evening. One thing is for sure: it's different here. At first, we weren't sure if we liked it or not. The city center is not particularly well-kept. We were initially surprised at how empty the streets were on a Saturday night until we realized there was a finals match. But not football, rather the French rugby championship. The people here seem to be quite laid-back. Some set up a table on the sidewalk in front of their house and sit there together. Music comes out of the open windows late at night. There are some characters walking around, wow. Some of them would be an attraction in Munich. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to enjoy the atmosphere much longer, as we are currently facing a two-day heatwave that will besiege all of Europe, so we will have to hunker down in our holiday apartment. Additionally, the shops are closed on Sunday and Monday. However, we will stay in the Basque Country, and then move on to Saint Jean de Luz.
