Originally, we didn't intend to go to Portoferraio, as we felt upon arriving on the island that it was an unappealing town, only good for docking. Luckily, we decided otherwise. The place turned out to be incredibly photogenic today. We were quite alone in the old town and at Forte Falcone, a Medici fortress, which was a fantastic experience. Overall, Elba has been a discovery for us. There are many picturesque places and everything is so close together; for example, it takes only 20 minutes by car from Porto Azzurro to Portoferraio, making excursions very relaxed.
