The legendary Lake Titicaca is the world's highest navigable lake (at 3800 m). Its name possibly means gray puma (from above, its shape resembles that).On our journey from Bolivia to Peru, it is conveniently located on the border between the two countries. After nearly 4 hours by bus from La Paz, we find ourselves at its shore in the town of Copacabana.The lake is so vast that we feel more like we are standing on a coastline!
Our destination is Isla del Sol (Sun Island), to which we cross by a small boat. For the Incas, the Sun Island was the origin of everything: The Sun God Inti sent the first Incas to Earth here: Mama Ocllo with her husband Manco Cápac. However, there are also traces of the Tiwanaku culture, which existed even earlier.
We really enjoy our time here - after we have climbed the breathtaking Inca steps from the dock! The island is very mountainous, and in the southern part, there are many beautiful accommodations overlooking the lake. Our lodging
