A final sunrise at 'Karijini National Park' - the view from the tent over the vast landscape. This night was also very fresh and the wind rattled the tent walls. One looks forward, including the lady, to hot coffee and fried eggs for breakfast. Off to one last hike nearby, the sun was favorably positioned to somewhat capture the magic of these rocks. Down we went through ladders and natural stone steps into the 'Joffre Gorge'. Sometimes you have to scramble along chains to venture further into the canyon to reach the water. Again, a mix of colors from the rocks - unbelievable! It is very quiet down there, with only a few spider webs and no animal life in sight. However, the trees on the rock walls are true 'climbers'! Around 10 a.m., we headed out of the Pilbara desert, north toward Port Hedland, about 400 km away. The first highlight after 130 km was again a gas station. This is always an important topic for travelers since the network is not extensive. However, the highway was well-trafficked today, especially by many 'road trains' that shuttle between the mines and the port at Port Hedland. In this case, that means, a truck plus 4 trailers, licensed length: 53.5 m. These vehicles were specifically developed for the conditions here in Australia and have a power of about 500 hp. In one direction, towards Port Hedland, the ore-bearing rock is transported to the port for export. The empty vehicles return to the mines for reloading. These giants have long braking distances and do not brake for a kangaroo or a cow. Along the road lay some cow carcasses. Otherwise, there was again nothing but steppe on the right and left, and sometimes even less. We are only making a stop in this town on our way to Broome. The hotel consists of long bungalows (style: motel) with several rooms, some with ocean views. We enjoyed the sun, dust-free environment, and the beautiful view, and we are also looking forward to a warmer night!
