After two days in the 'outback', we returned to the Pacific today, 240 km further north. A strong wind was blowing along the way, and the app had forecast rain for the afternoon. We had repacked our luggage today and created extra baggage for two overnight stays, as our car with the rest of our belongings remained on the mainland. The office is located in River Heads shopping village - nice name but nothing to do with shopping. We headed to the agency of the 'Kingfisher Bay Resort'. There, our booking was confirmed and we received the ferry tickets. Afterward, we were able to securely park our rental car, and shortly after, we took the bus to the ferry. The small luggage was checked in beforehand. The crossing to 'Fraser Island' took 45 minutes. In 2018, the island regained the original name of the Indigenous people: 'K'gari', through then 'Prince' Harry. Check-in was quick here as well, and our checked luggage was already in the room in a two-storey wooden bungalow on stilts, as the resort is located in a wetland area. After a short coffee break, we decided to take a walk on the beach, still enjoying the best sunshine. Since it was low tide, the small sand bubbler crabs had formed many sand balls. They filter nutrients from the sand they ingest, creating imaginative sand patterns. The two fishermen in the last photo had just caught a shark. In the distance, we saw their catch and then the dark rain cloud, which caught us on the way back. So the app was correct! The pool was out of the question because more rain showers came. This also meant we couldn't go to the beach for the sunset, which was forecasted for 5:23 PM. Well, maybe it will work out tomorrow...
