The day began as yesterday had ended, grey. The fog hung in the mountains, but the weather app had given us hope and so we went to breakfast early (today with French toast). The Aldeia da Cuada complex is a lovingly restored abandoned village. There are 16 houses there for 2 to 12 people. The app was right and the day had hiking weather for us once again. We headed north to Ponto Delgada. The small VW had to climb up to a height of almost 600m, through clouds of fog, to then get into the sunlight in the highlands. There was stunted, low woodland everywhere, no pastureland, then back down to the coast. The place was as deserted as all of them here, there were few tourists around. Our first destination is Ponta dos Ilheus through the forest, on different paths, sometimes good, then slippery and damp. But we hike to the top of the promontory and have a picnic in the sun, opposite the village, so to speak. We were on the road for almost 3 hours, 9km, 23°C and we headed back across the plateau. We stopped briefly at a crater lake and then near our town to a wall of waterfalls. You have to hike up to it, over wet stones, uphill. But the view of the waterfalls is great and there are also a few tourists here. We were back at around 3pm and had enough time to sort out our things and relax.
