Besuch von „Das Phantom der Oper“ am Hafen
Show

'The Phantom of the Opera' last night was an experience - great stage design, good singers, continuously surprising effects, and the Phantom was able to conjure with sophisticated pyrotechnics and fireworks. The stage was built into the harbor basin, so we had the brightly lit skyscrapers, the opera house, and the port area as a 'bonus backdrop' in the background. On our way back, we used the shuttle bus, and while waiting, we struck up conversations, making the time fly!

This morning at 9 am, we picked up our first rental car, a Mitsubishi Outlander, and headed out of the city. Adventure of driving on the left. The driver handled it well! The gear shift and technology are similar to our Nissan, making the technical adjustment easier. We drove most of the 130 km on the M4 highway, with a maximum speed of 110 km/h, and this was also toll-required. There are no extra stations where you pay. The license plate is captured by cameras, and the toll is billed directly to the rental car company. No later than 14 days after returning the car, the accumulated amounts will be charged to the credit card.

We drove towards the 'Blue Mountains'; the thermometer dropped to 15 degrees, and the wind was blowing strongly. Just before our destination, we made a hiking stop at Wentworth Falls and Fletcher's Lookout. The waterfalls are hidden in a forested area. Good paths and good weather made this Saturday a popular day for hiking in the region. The wind caused the water from the falls to spray, creating a bit of a rainbow. Around 12:30 pm, we arrived in Katoomba and checked into the hotel right away. You're always curious about what your accommodations will be like. This time, we opted for a 'plush' experience, with 30s-style interiors, Art Nouveau windows in the restaurant area, and many bronze statues. The building dates back to the late 19th century.

Katoomba is essentially the heart of the Blue Mountains and was once (in the 20s/30s) Australia's Honeymoon Capital. In this context, our hotel also played a central role.

After a short break, we headed into the town. 8000 residents, a shopping street, Aldi, Woolworths, and many bistros or cafes in a functional style. Many of the owners here are of Asian descent. Today we tried 'Fish and Chips' - that is, fries. A very good choice! We stocked up at Aldi.

The white cockatoos are also ubiquitous in this town. Their screeching is unmistakable, and they feel right at home in the small park surrounding the hotel.
