Von Skorpionen, Moskitos und 'unserer' Lodge (Sámara 12. & 13.5.22)

Published: 13.05.2022

At this point an exciting diving report should be, and something about zip lining. Ziplining was canceled due to lack of A SECOND 😂 participant, and the dive guide Andy is missing somewhere in San José.... So here is a report about the normal daily travel madness in Costa Rica. 😁

We have extensively explored the area around Sámara in the last few days and yesterday we made our way to Mel Gibson's beach, Playa Barrigona. After several bumpy kilometers (keyword gravel road), we are faced with a river to cross. While we are still discussing whether our car can do it, a snorting pick-up passes us, accelerates, turns a corner into the river, and... gets stuck. There he is. So the family climbs out of the car, wades through the river, and asks if we can maybe drive through and tow them? Uh no. Should we call someone to tow? Nah, he's waiting for the next pick-up. Then a quad comes, tries to tow, but can't do it (with a tie-down strap, mind you). After a while, we leave the scene and take another (longer) way, because many roads lead to Mel Gibson's beach. When we arrive, Mel Gibson is not there, but it is raining. And Sebastian is sleeping. A complete success 😂

The lodge is now only ours. In the morning, Sebastian asks if he can go swimming. Preferably in pajamas. I approve of the swimming, not the pajamas, and he just goes naked. Nobody's there 😎

On the last evening, I bring a big black spider inside with my clothes from outside (probably a whip spider), which Frank promptly disposes of at my squealing.

While he is still making fun of me, I ask him to also dispose of the scorpion sitting in the corner. - The what? - Scorpion, there. - Ok, can you get the night watchman? 😂

Deyner is immediately on the scene and expertly kills the scorpion with his sandal. Then he sweeps it away. A scorpion sting wouldn't be that bad, just like a burn or a wasp sting. That's reassuring, but Sebastian and I still search the room with a flashlight for further unwelcome visitors. Only the spider in the corner is allowed to stay. She surely eats mosquitoes. By the way, things I won't miss at home: f*ing mosquitoes!!!

Vacation statistics of bites:

Sebastian: 10

Frank: 3

Claudia: about 40,000!!!

Despite everything, it was beautiful in Sámara, the beach is great, and we have already grown fond of the staff. We are bid farewell with kisses, then the main entrance is locked. When we leave, we should simply close the door. And so it is time to set off and move on. To Uvita. Where the dives are already booked 🤞.
