In January 2025, Mars will move from Cancer into Gemini. Also, the sum of the digits of 2025 = 9, which is the number of perfection. At the same time, the minimum wage will rise to €12.82 - to the cent exactly. Do you know what that means in combination?!?!
No?!
Me neither. I believe it means nothing at all, but also that someone could come up with a ludicrous story about how everything could be connected, and it would sound totally reasonable. I don’t believe that everything has a meaning or a reason, that every pain from the year 2024 was necessary, or that I have to make a positive message out of every hurtful word, or that I should learn something from every burdensome situation. I also can’t find anything good about the fact that my foot has hurt so much since day 2 in Sydney that I can’t walk without pain and that I’m constantly teetering on a cold with a sore throat due to the air conditioning. At the same time, I know that there is ibuprofen, saltwater, and the fact that I’m not doing myself any favors by letting these things spoil my mood. I know that in 2024, I had to say goodbye to people and friendships, and at the same time, many wonderful new people entered my life. I know that I cried a lot out of sadness, shame, and fear, and at the same time, I was left speechless in many places by joy and the beauty of the world, with just a few tears of joy. I miss many things that are no longer there. I am happy about many things that have come. That doesn’t make it all right, but it makes it easier, albeit different.
One year ago, I sat in front of the TV on New Year's Eve, watched the fireworks in Sydney, and said, 'I think next year I'll be there.' I am. Really? Yesterday someone told me: 'You are quite a positive person.' I am. Really? This year I asked people in my life how they would describe me in three words, and one of the words mentioned was 'brave.' I am. Really? If someone had told me all this around 2 years ago, I would have laughed at the person. And now I laugh because everything is new, beautiful, and most importantly, true.
Perhaps that is the secret to contentment: Not having to like everything that happens. But being ready to bring in, allow, or see different and new things in life. Especially when it feels impossible and as if everything is getting worse. That sounds easier than it is, but it can work - even if not always immediately.
I made a list of things I collected this year that I did, heard, or tried for the first time. And so I ask, at the end of the old year and with the beginning of the new: When was the last time you did something for the first time - and what will that be next?
I wish you all a wonderful new year. Thank you for accompanying me here from afar. ❤️
