Nova Scotia

The alarm clock rings at 4:00. Wow, that's early. It's a good thing we packed everything yesterday, so all we have to do is find space for the toothbrush and pajamas.

Yesterday I wanted to look for the documents from the next accommodation, but I didn't find anything. I am 90% sure that I booked the B&B. As a precaution, I wrote another email last night, let's see what they reply.

Almost on time

The bus leaves for the airport at 5:00. Everything is going like clockwork, except for the fact that the seat reservation on the plane didn't work out and Shahaatz and I are flying separately again. A change is not possible because the machine is completely booked. I wonder who the hell is flying to Halifax?

We're having breakfast at McCafe today because the sandwiches look delicious.

There are a lot of young people sitting in the plane, two of them to the right and left of me, as Shahaatz and I only got middle seats. And sometimes you have to be lucky, because after the announcement: Boarding complete, Schahaatz is still sitting alone and we can share a row of seats. 😁

Approaching Halifax

Halifax, a port on the Atlantic coast of eastern Canada, is the capital of the province of Nova Scotia.

After landing the usual process - suitcase - rental car - shopping.

We booked a small car. Shahaatz decides against a Kia and for a Hyundai Venue because we didn't have that yet.

I would say VW T-Cross size (our current car at home - by the way, it's currently for sale, so if you're interested, please let me know). It's not that easy with two travel bags. But with a little effort everything fit into place. But no, that's crap and Shahaatz goes to ask if we can get the Kia. Unfortunately he just left the farm with someone else and so we only have this car left.

Big and almost comfortable. The window switches under the radio, no aspherical mirrors, but all-wheel drive, little suspension, ultra high entry, removable roof and a cool color.

The color seems to appeal here in Nova Scotia as I have never been greeted so often.

I now have confirmation from the accommodation that we have not reserved anything. Oh no, I really missed that. Luckily they still have rooms and I quickly book one. 😅

We are now 5 hours away from our accommodation by car. We could have driven 3.5 hours on the highway alone, but we chose the coastal road.

5 hours can be quite long if you haven't slept much. After the first hour he spent behind the wheel, Shahaatz immediately collapsed next to me in a comatose state. I then drove on for another 2.5 hours, through a great landscape, with really crappy roads, before I made a forced stop. (Otherwise I would have fallen asleep - after a certain point, not even the great landscape can keep you awake). At the stop, Schahaatz got us a cafe at Tim Hortons, not good but hot. Then, surprisingly, he drives through to the accommodation.

Just in time for sunset and the table we have ordered, we drive to the courtyard of our accommodation,

the Chanterelle Restaurant, Inn & Cottages (about 20 km from Baddeck). To our surprise, Holger, the husband of the owner of the Inn & Cottage, welcomes us in German.

We end the day with a delicious meal.
