Visit from home - The Franconian #2

Published: 19.09.2019

We hitchhiked for the next 40 km. Perched on the loading platform, we went in search of new suitable tires.

Fortunately, the workshop was located at the agreed meeting point. So we didn't lose much time and even saved some fuel 😊. Two fresh tires and new courage, the journey continued.

For the following day, we planned a trip to the coast. A winding country road led to the small town of Kawhia on the west coast. The place is known for its natural hot pools. Only a shovel is needed to dig a hole in the sand. The groundwater here is very warm due to volcanic energy and offers the opportunity to create your own SPA pool. Beware, it's HOT!

Unfortunately, this wonderful plan was never realized. Tim couldn't resist and tried fishing again, while Thomas and Caro chatted for an hour by the car. What they didn't notice... the light on the old, rickety Odhi. After Tim could only be caught again by a phone reminder, the journey was supposed to continue. But the car didn't budge. At first, Tim didn't want to believe it at all. Gathering himself, further attempts were made, quickly it became clear, this battery is completely dead. At least the motivation was there again after a short moment, surely you can jump-start a battery... just not without cables. A short drive and $50 poorer, the first attempts were made. Let me tell you, sparks and smoke are not promising signs of success. One hour later - without success. AANNDDD off to the AA Hotline, three times in 48 hours, is that a record? "Still the same silver blue Toyota?" asked the lady on the phone. Tim had to painfully confirm this. By now poor Thomas probably thought he had booked the free Amateur Mechanic Tour of the Backpacker organization with limits. Due to the delay, the hot pool appointment went down the drain, nice :I !

Continuing with our next really beautiful experience: Hobbiton. The outdoor film set for the Lord of the Rings films and also The Hobbit. We don't want to beat around the bush for us it was absolutely worth it. The area represents the entire village of the small, heavily foot-haired figures. The well-known small houses, the village square, the green dragon, and of course, Mr. Bilbo's house. For fans, it's simply fantastic, cute, detailed, fascinating.

A little anecdote: On this particular day, the cash register was broken, so we can honestly claim, without deceit, to be among the few people who have captured a rare free beer in the Green Dragon.

Time passed as it always does, faster than desired, the farewell was really more than heartfelt, contents are reserved for those involved 😉.

Thank you so much for your visit, brave Lutz uh Thomas, it seems that New Zealand is also a place for you!
