Day 22: Rila Monastery

This morning: blue sky, 1° - the heating was on all night.

We first went back down the mountain and then to Rila Monastery. An absolute highlight of any trip to Bulgaria. The pictures speak for themselves! Unfortunately, photography is never allowed inside Orthodox churches. Splendor, magnificent icons, gold and glitter.

The monastery complex is completely closed and well renovated. There are still monks here, but we didn't see any of them.

Then on to Sofia, where we have now stayed for 2 nights at a rather sad campsite. At least the temperature has now risen to 23°.
