Shortly after seven, the alarm went off and I actually wanted to get up, until I had the sudden realization that breakfast is only served from 8 o'clock. So I closed my eyes again.
Around 9:30 am, I set off towards St. Goar.
The route could be tough. For the first time, I noticed that my legs felt heavy and I had a bit of muscle soreness. Fortunately, that eased up after a while.
With the clock striking 12:00, I set up my first rest point at the ruins of Schwabsburg. After a small snack, I climbed the tower before heading through the vineyards towards Mainz.
After about an hour, I reached Mainz.
In Mainz, I took a stroll through the old town. The plan to have a small meal there failed because all the outdoor seating was full.
So I stopped at the gas station to refill my drinks, and I decided to eat two rolls as well.
Rejuvenated, I headed towards Bingen, where a short break in the park by the Mouse Tower was planned. However, the fenced park deterred me, and I decided to continue on to St. Goar.
