Our second destination was the Prohibition Pig Brewery in Waterbury, VT. It is located in the former building of The Alchemist Brewery (see Vermont Brewery Tour (3)) and is particularly known for its delicious meat dishes and their perfectly paired house-brewed beers. Utilizing the old walls of the famous Alchemist Brewery is a great marketing advantage - the whole place was packed.
Rufous Red (hoppy Red Ale) 5.8%
A beautiful interplay of Simcoe & Citra hops, complemented by the rare Nelson Sauvin, all on top of a subtly malty base.
Winter Lager (German-Style Black Lager) 5.2%
Tastes like an under-fermented stout. It's a bit too roasted and dry for a German-style black beer.
Afterwards, we briefly stopped at Vermont's biggest tourist attraction: The Ben&Jerry's Ice Cream Factory.
