Swakopmund

We have now been in Swakopmund for two days, possibly the most German city in Namibia.

Today was Cassingaday, a non-working memorial day to commemorate a massacre by the South African army in a refugee camp of the Namibian liberation movement Swapo.

We admired the colonial buildings from the German period.

At the beach and the adjacent promenade, there was a colorful, relaxed atmosphere, as many Namibians took advantage of the long weekend for a short trip to the sea.

While some restaurants (e.g., the Brauhaus) only serve white customers and the staff addressed us directly in German (Why is that?😇), at other places, the separation seems to have been lifted, and there is a coexistence.

What we saw live in Etosha National Park can be found in Swakopmund as a meat dish on the menu or as a wooden artwork in the market.😃
