Hiking today on the Socatrail, beautiful clear water that changed its colors repeatedly, suspension bridges that required courage to cross, and stunning views of the surrounding peaks of the Julian Alps. How wonderful that so many people from different backgrounds are embarking on this trail. More than 100 years ago, the 12 Isonzo battles took place in this valley, where 1 million people were killed, injured, or missing due to the conflict between Austria-Hungary and Italy. The Vrsic Pass, which we crossed yesterday, was primarily constructed by Russian prisoners of war, who unintentionally left behind more positivity than through fighting for their Tsar.
It's hard to imagine that someday in Eastern Ukraine, Russian, Ukrainian, and other people could peacefully walk such a trail. Hard to imagine, but maybe, who knows... .
