Day 1 Flight/ Arrival

Published: 04.08.2024

First, I tried to find my way at Zurich Airport, which actually worked better than I thought. There were no complications aside from the security check, where they searched my carry-on backpack again and ended up taking my crafting scissors away :D they were apparently too big. Otherwise, I arrived at the gate for boarding on time (really to the minute).

The flight lasted 11 hours to Bangkok. Unfortunately, passing the time was a bit tedious, as the series I thought I had downloaded didn't actually download :) and I couldn't sleep either. Fortunately, there was some Thai music available on the tablets on the plane. Upon arriving in Bangkok, I had about 3 hours until my next flight. I was able to sleep well on a bench at the gate :D Just in time for boarding, I woke up and even managed to grab a coffee. The flight from Bangkok to Denpasar(Bali) took about another 4 hours. During that time, I mainly slept. After eating on the plane, I unfortunately felt very sick and also had stomach pains until the evening. I think I will have to get used to that. :D

At the airport in Bali, everything went smoothly, except for my luggage, which I had to wait for about an hour. After the luggage check, they pulled me aside again and wanted to see my suitcase. They had some problem with the stuffed animals (a gift for the kids) I had with me, but it was okay in the end :D Therefore, my driver, who was commissioned by the organization to pick me up, had to wait quite a long time for me.

Once I finally had my luggage and left the airport, I was immediately approached by many taxi drivers who were quite persistent.

When I found my driver, he was able to safely take me to my accommodation :) On the way, he dropped me off at a SIM card stand and an ATM, and then I discovered that my credit card wasn't working :D I decided to leave that as a future problem.

In the accommodation, I was alone at first until Rima arrived after 2 hours. Rima also works at the children's home, so we could discuss some things, and she explained a lot to me about what to pay attention to in Bali. After that, I went to bed and was able to sleep pretty quickly.
