Tag 336 - Playa del Carmen, Mexico (12/12/2020)

Published: 12.12.2020

It's been a month now that we've been in Mexico. Admittedly, it was a mixed first month here in Central America.

Due to the end of the rainy season, the weather here was still very unpredictable and there were almost daily tropical heavy rain showers. In addition, there were some experiences like a flat tire, a rear-end collision, and health problems that made our start here a bit difficult.

Yes, in fact, we weren't spared from Corona this year and struggled with flu-like symptoms for a few days, but luckily they didn't turn out to be serious.

Despite everything, we are incredibly happy and grateful to be here. We knew from the beginning what "risk" we were taking when we decided to travel to Mexico, and we were aware that time moves a bit slower here.

The dreamy sandy beaches, tropical temperatures, the jungle, almost no Corona restrictions, and the many young eager travelers we meet are all arguments that clearly speak for Mexico for us.

In the past few weeks, we have explored ancient Mayan ruins in the jungle, enjoyed the beach vibes, and explored the food and street art of Tulum.

Currently, we are in the city of Playa del Carmen with two friends from Germany and Israel. We will spend Christmas and New Year's together here.

In the city, you meet countless young digital nomads from all over the world who work remotely and have spent the entire Corona time here.

An absolute highlight for us was that we randomly met Nick Martin here, a bestselling author from Germany, who inspired us with his book "Die geilste Lücke im Lebenslauf" and sweetened our time in lockdown in Malaysia (March-April 2020). We spent a relaxed afternoon with him on the beach, listening eagerly to his stories from over 6 years of world travel.

We can hardly believe how much we have experienced this year - on the other hand, this year has passed incredibly quickly. A year ago, we were still in the final stages of our preparation. The last days of work in the old job, selling the last pieces of furniture, packing up, and watching many YouTube videos about world travel.

After a year, we are the ones who can tell travel stories and inspire others - an incredibly great feeling.

As always, we have no plan for what will happen next year - we will probably spend some more time in Mexico, we will see what 2021 has in store for us.

We send you many sunny greetings to Germany, make the best of the current situation and don't let yourself be discouraged. If we've learned one thing, it's that after every rain, the sun will shine again!

Warm greetings - Your world travel lovers Bianca & Michael
