Woke up at 6:00. It was too cold for the mosquitoes now (even though we had crossed the Tropics of Capricorn again yesterday on our way to Alice Springs), so I could do morning exercise. Then the long drive began, 250km south, then turning right towards the east. Unfortunately, there was not much to see. After a long time, the open tree savannah turned into open grass savannah, and it became farmland where cattle are raised. Unfortunately, there were no emus or kangaroos to be seen. Then we crossed the border into Queensland, and immediately a half hour passed: the time difference to Germany is now 8 hours instead of 7.5 hours. After 450km heading east, and thus a total of 700km, we arrived at the Camooweal Billabong at 3:30 PM.

This is another free place where you can park with your camper. A few kilometers off the highway next to a billabong over 1km long, so an elongated lake. You stand idyllically by the shore, where a row of trees provides shade, with grass all around. In the billabong, beautiful white and purple water lilies grow. It is full of waterbirds: geese, ducks, divers, cormorants, various species of herons. In the tree directly opposite, on the other side of the lake, a pair of wedge-tailed eagles is nesting. An idyllic spot where you can camp for free.
