Tuesday 20.6. (67.9 km/ 750hm)
The journey takes us to Nina (relatives of friends from Nuremberg) who accepted our package from Germany for us.
We ring the bell and are warmly welcomed with an espresso.
Our problem is that she doesn't speak English and we don't speak Italian.
So at first we Skype with Sascha, her nephew, who translates for us.
Then we 'converse' with Google Translator :)
Nina organizes a campsite for us and we can leave our bikes in the hallway to see the Sassis.
As we are about to leave, Nina asks if we want to do laundry and take a shower... Of course, we say yes.
Later we arrange to eat Panzerotti...
We go with her and her husband to the restaurant of her friend and enjoy the local 'delicacy'
(for starters we are served fries, the Panzerotti look like small calzone pizzas, but they are fried - the dough tastes like Langos)
On the way back we get the well-known Matera bread and are invited to spend the night at their home.
Of course, a dessert is a must, so Nina makes puff pastry pastries with cream filling at half past ten in the evening.
The next morning we have a rich breakfast with pancakes, bread and homemade jam which we take with us on our journey.
Fantastic!!!
Nina is absolutely lovely and despite the language barrier, we get along brilliantly.
Unfortunately, we have to continue towards the sea and say goodbye with a heavy heart.
We arrange to meet again in 2018 in Nuremberg where she has her brother Romeo and his family.
Thanks again for everything!!
