I went to the Fiji Islands, a group of islands in the Pacific Ocean. I flew north from Christchurch for 3 hours to reach the city of Nadi, located in the southwest. Nadi is the starting and ending point for most tourists. From here, the ferry departs for the Yasawa Islands, a popular group of islands.
My journey also takes me to the Yasawa Islands. I will be visiting 4 islands in the next 9 days. This process is also called island hopping.
As soon as I landed, our plane was welcomed by a local band. The entry process was smooth and without any complications. Then, I went to the Bamboo Backpackers Hostel. It was a small party hostel where no one stayed longer than one night in order to catch the ferry to the Yasawa Islands the next morning, just like me.
My first island was South Sea Island, the smallest of the four. I stayed here for 2 nights. It was a touristy island, as it was the closest to the mainland and many tourists booked day trips to this island. In my opinion, this island was overcrowded and didn't give the feeling of being on a deserted island at all. It was probably more crowded than the Ballerman beach in Mallorca.
