La Paz

Wotae: 20.11.2017

Although we didn't have a good start - we love this chaotic, colorful, loud, yet lovable city of La Paz.

Friday evening at 20:30 we take the night bus from Uyuni to La Paz. Once again, we have a good 9-hour bus ride ahead of us. Buses in South America are extremely comfortable, allowing you to recline the seats almost to a horizontal position. We reach La Paz at 5:30 in the morning and we go tiredly to our hostel, where we can chill in the lobby until check-in. Here we quickly notice that a laptop and a Kindle were stolen from our backpack during the bus transfer while we were sleeping. So the low point of the day in terms of mood was already reached at 6:00 in the morning.

The rest of the morning we spend at the local police station to report the case. We are accompanied by numerous Bolivian TV stations who repeatedly ask the police officers why we are here. Why all the attention? We don't know, but we are taken care of very nicely, despite our broken Spanish.

We use the rest of the day and the following day to explore the city and are pleasantly surprised by the lively city, which is the highest capital in the world at between 3200 and 4100 meters above sea level.

The whole city feels like a huge market this weekend. There are small stalls everywhere on the street, selling everything from fruits, vegetables, electronic items, clothes to toilet paper - it seems that everyone in La Paz is buying everything. In between, thousands of people, honking cars, and stray dogs. What a spectacle. We love it.

The mountain and valley location of the city is connected by cable cars. We ride them to various heights of the city and enjoy the view. To finish, we go to the "Valle de la Luna" near the city and take a little walk here. By the way, the food here in Bolivia is much tastier compared to the Chilean food.

With the end in La Paz, half of our sabbatical is over and it's time to say goodbye to South America. We are drawn back to the sea, to Nicaragua. We are looking forward to hopefully good waves and a bit of wind. Content
