Castlepoint - Our spontaneous trip to the South Island

Yesterday morning we woke up at 7 a.m. by the alarm clock, got ready and then went to work. After just a few minutes, we didn't feel like it anymore. It's just so humiliating to have to rely on the weather every day. 4 days of rain - no work. 3 days without rain - work. It's disillusioning. You stay in the same place for too long without earning decent money. Let alone experiencing anything. So we decided at work that this would be our last day here. I immediately took out my phone, booked a ferry for Friday morning, checked other important things and then we left. After 4 hours of work that day. It was worth it.

When we sat back in the car, we felt relieved and happy to be able to travel again. There is work on the South Island as well, so it might have been the best decision we could make.

Off to the shower and then towards Wellington. Fortunately, I was able to find out at short notice what great sights to see on the way from Hawke's Bay to Wellington. One of them was Castlepoint. It was also the closest to our route. So we went there spontaneously. When we arrived, it was already dark. Accordingly, we only made something to eat (not we, but me alone, in the dark, it was cold and crawling with creatures that wanted to suck my blood - and I'm not talking about vampires) and then went to sleep at some point.

Castlepoint - A beautiful spot in New Zealand. Sandy beach, cliffs and rocks, a small lighthouse and seals (we were told, unfortunately we didn't see any at high tide, apparently you can see seals under the lighthouse in a cave at low tide). We walked along there for a while and then set off again, after all, we wanted to see something in Wellington during the day (we should have stayed longer in Castlepoint, but hindsight is always 20/20, but read for yourself).

On the way from Castlepoint to Wellington (In Castlepoint there were a total of 12 speed bumps over an estimated distance of 500 meters, with a speed limit of 50km/h. You need a sports car to even reach 50km/h between the speed bumps, well...), we finally came across a sheep crossing. We've been waiting for this the whole time. There are so many pictures and videos of cars being surrounded by countless sheep on the road... and this time we were right in the middle of it, even if it was a rather small herd. Still a great experience.

Arriving in Wellington - my girlfriend luckily survived my rapid drive up and down the winding road with minor injuries - I immediately missed country life again. It was noisy, crowded, well, a big city. I prefer nature, that's why I'm here after all.

Now we're standing at a free campsite near the airport, listening to the traffic - so relaxing when a plane takes off above you every 5 minutes (caution irony). Tomorrow morning we're going from Wellington to Picton. Let's see what the South Island has to offer...
