Koh Samui: Dec 17th - 23rd, 2018

The journey from Zurich to Koh Samui via Bangkok went surprisingly fast and went smoothly until almost the end. When I arrived at the airport in Koh Samui completely relaxed, I was hardly surprised that there was no trace of my luggage. After the flight went so perfectly, something had to go wrong ;) In the past, situations like this would have quickly ruined my mood, but now I always try to think of the 90/10 rule* (thanks again to the person who taught me that). In the end, it wasn't a big deal as my backpack was delivered about 6 hours later.

The reunion with my brother Michel aka Mitsch was funny and emotional at the same time. Of course, he had to creep up on me at the airport first to be able to scare me from behind. Silly. We don't have a "normal" greeting anyway.

He had already rented a scooter, so we could conveniently drive to our guesthouse in Boput in the northeast of the island WITHOUT my 16.5kg-heavy backpack (haha).

After it had mostly rained on Tuesday and Wednesday - by rain I mean pouring rain including heavy thunderstorms - and our program consisted of sports, sauna, and Netflix, we were even more grateful that we were able to enjoy the beach and the sea under a clear blue sky on Thursday and today (unlike "pool-Mitsch", who tries to avoid the beach if possible :P). Of course, today I also got my first sunburn. Bravo.

In the picture above you can see Pascal, a friend from Zurich who had to return to Switzerland after his 2.5 months trip!
@Pascal: Our meeting at the pool today was short but "next-level" fun! Stay as relaxed as you are :)

On Sunday we will take a ferry to Koh Phangan, the smaller neighboring island of Koh Samui, where we will stay for 8 nights in a yoga retreat in the middle of the mountainous jungle. A daily yoga lesson and vegan breakfast are included in the price, which prompted me to book a room (or rather a small hut) there. Nevertheless, I hope for not too strong "Gspührsch-mi, fühlsch-mi" vibes. Let's see!

Short summary of the island Koh Samui: Very touristy, a few nice and quieter beaches, personally not so impressed.

*90/10 rule: We cannot influence 10% of what happens to us. This includes natural disasters, car accidents, flight delays, etc. So we can determine 90% of our lives ourselves. In short: In 9 out of 10 situations, we have the outcome in our hands! Sounds reassuring, doesn't it? ;)
