The last stages mainly consisted of rocky deserts in California and were dry and hot. Several meters below the trail ran the Deep Creek River, which we crossed repeatedly to replenish our water supplies.
The 'Deep Creek Hot Springs', located directly on the PCT, are particularly popular with hikers and locals. Early in the morning, at pleasant air temperatures, we enjoyed the natural pools with hot springs before continuing on the trail.
The most beautiful stage destinations after days of marching in the middle of nowhere are places with culinary delights. Today, this was the McDonald's branch on Interstate Highway 15, which we had been looking forward to for days. With large paper bags full of burgers and milkshakes, the hikers gather in *front* of the branch to charge their electronic devices at the outdoor socket next to the drive-in. To be able to eat here again the next morning, we set up our tents right across from the branch in the desert landscape between the shrubs.
But already the next day we return to the wilderness with its challenges: On the next 20 miles, there is only one water supply. Since it will be a hot day with steep ascents, we have to carry many liters in our backpacks.
