Roadtrip 2 - Kiama

The city of Kiama is a nice older town right by the sea. First we visited the blowholes, which are holes in the rock where water fountains occasionally shoot out. Many tourists there and not really spectacular. These blowholes cannot be compared to those in Caranavon on the west coast, they were spectacular. We then went to the rockpool, a natural pool made of stones that is filled by the waves of the sea. We wanted to wait to swim until the tide is at its highest level, because that's when it's supposed to be best. So we spent the evening swimming in the normal sea. The next morning when the tide was good, we went swimming in the rockpools, a great experience.

Then we drove back to Sydney via the Pacific Drive. This time the destination was the Royal National Park, which had been closed before due to bushfires. We were disappointed in the national park. Everything is overpriced and poorly signposted. In addition, you have to do up to 8 hours of hiking to see the attractions. We weren't interested in that and continued driving. Just outside of Sydney, we found a great free campsite (with shower/toilet). We spent a nice evening by the river and later with other German backpackers and the owner by the fire.
