From Bacalar I now went to Chetumal to take the ADO bus to Guanajuato. However, the lady at the Bacalar counter did not tell me that I had to buy another ticket at México Norte after traveling for more than 24 hours, with the bus taking a break every 2 to 2.5 hours. This was the end of the line for the ADO bus. So, I left Chetumal at 8 pm in the evening and arrived in México Norte the next evening at 11 pm.
Thankfully, Alfredo was sitting next to me on the bus. He boarded two stops after Chetumal and was also going to the final destination. He was a very quiet man, but he knew a lot about the area we were traveling through. When I wanted to get off at one of the bus terminals in the middle of México, he stopped me and told me that we still had to go one more stop. My goodness, that could have been a disaster!
At the Terminal Central de Autobuses del Norte, I realized that my ticket was only valid until here, and I had to buy a new one. For a different bus. And it was 11 pm at night. The terminal was huge, almost like an airport, and packed!
However, Alfredo stayed by my side and insisted on accompanying me until I bought a ticket and stood at the correct gate. What an angel!! It turned out that there were almost no more tickets available to Guanajuato, no matter which bus company we asked. Finally, Primera Plus had one ticket left, but the bus was leaving at 11:50 pm. I bought my ticket, Alfredo accompanied me to the correct gate, and then went on his way. But not before I managed to get a photo with him :-).
The Primera Plus (very comfortable, better than ADO) also didn't go all the way to Guanajuato, but only to Irapuato. When I arrived there at 1:30 am, I had to take a taxi again.
An older taxi driver came up to me right away, I showed him the address on my phone, and he assured me that he knew where it was. I double-checked: Guanajuato, Centro Histórico, De Tanganitos 41? Yes, yes, he knows where that is. It'll be 100 pesos. Okay, that's fine with me. I'll tell you tomorrow why he didn't take me to the Centro Histórico and why I almost exploded.
