The Boudhanath Stupa is located in the Kathmandu area. A stupa is a Buddhist structure that symbolizes Buddha himself and his teachings. Boudhanath is one of the most important destinations for Buddhist pilgrims in Nepal. Here and in every other stupa, the eyes of the Buddha point in all directions. The believers circle the building clockwise and also turn the prayer wheels attached to the outer wall clockwise.

There is a circle of houses around the Boudhanath Stupa, reminiscent of a Tibetan village. There is also a Buddhist monastery there.

Prayer flags are of course characteristic of Buddhism. Each color has a special meaning and represents a specific element. The blue color symbolizes the sky, the white color symbolizes air, the red color symbolizes fire, the green color symbolizes water and the yellow color symbolizes the element earth. On each flag there is a Tibetan mantra, which is supposed to be carried by the wind into the world or into the sky.
