Since the girls had to work today, I made my way to the Sealife Aquarium in the center of Bangkok after I had rested again. When I arrived at the metro station, I was immediately in a familiar environment. That was the station where Bia and I started our trips to the outskirts of Bangkok half a year ago. I strolled a bit on the familiar paths and went to the aquarium. It seemed that today was also a school trip day, because in front of the entrance there was a horde of children eating lunch in groups.
I paid the entrance fee and eagerly watched the underwater world. In less than a week, I will be diving again.
After visiting Sealife, I wandered around the shopping center and bought a book. It had a huge bookstore and I spent at least an hour in it. Then I made my way to the metro station, where I will meet up with the girls later. Since I was still early, I walked around a bit and found a nice little park. I spent the time reading in the park.
I lost track of time a bit and only realized that I was late when my friends called me. (I had bought a Thai SIM card for exactly these moments) Luckily, I was less than 5 minutes away from the meeting point.
My friends had brought along some colleagues from work because we want to go on a special trip tonight. We want to visit the burial site of the late king. But first, we went to have dinner where we indulged ourselves again.
The girls' idea was to take the bus to the burial site, but after about 10 minutes of unsuccessful bus search, we decided to take a taxi. They had never been there before and didn't know the way exactly. After going through various security checks and registering as a tourist, we were able to enter the facility.
The burial site was very well done. In the middle lies the body of the king. For my Thai friends, entering was a very emotional moment, they all loved their king.
Around the burial site, various small houses had been built, which told the story of the king or showed the construction of the burial site.
I quickly realized why the king was so beloved. What he had done for Thailand was great, and he always made an effort to be close to the people, traveling throughout the country to get to know his own country better.
After the two-hour visit, we all needed a drink, so we all went to a bar together and ended the day with a few beers and cocktails.
