The ferry crossing from Wellington to Picton was absolutely fantastic. The weather was wonderful and the colors in the sea kept changing, even dolphins accompanied us. We continued by car through vineyards and orchards.
When I arrived and was taken to my chalet, I was touched by the view. The sea was right in front of me with a wide beach. The resort is located directly at Abel Tasman NP, where you can hike, kayak, ride horses, snorkel, etc. I chose hiking. There were options to do different tours of varying lengths.
On day 1, I wanted to get up early, but I didn't manage. I was ready only at 9:30 and had to set my goals differently. I walked from the beginning of the NP to Anchorage, which took about 4 hours. The hike was diverse, with rainforest, waterfalls, bridges, and beautiful sandy beaches. When I arrived in Anchorage, I was picked up by a water taxi and taken back to the village.
On day 2, I also wanted to get up early, but without success. I booked a water taxi for 10:00, which took me to Onetahuti and picked me up again in Bark Bay. Again, I went through rainforest and white beaches. When the water taxi arrived, I first thought it wasn't for me, as there were already many people with their kayaks there. I asked if it was waiting for me, and the captain said yes, if my name is Marlis. I went on board, but there was no more space due to the many kayaks and passengers. Fred, the captain, said I could stand in front with him. Yes, I said, but then I want to drive the boat. When he was a bit away from the beach, he actually let me steer the boat. That was great, but not as easy as you might think. Unfortunately, the joy didn't last long and he took over again.
I really liked this national park, and there were so many options and the beauty is breathtaking.
