Glacier National Park Montana

Gipatik: 17.09.2024

14.09.24

After an American breakfast (yuck), we are heading to Glacier National Park today.

The sun is shining and we are crossing the Blackfoot Indian Reservation.

(Do they really have black feet)

In Saint Mary, we enter the national park. From here, the Going to the Sun Road begins. Until September 8th, you need to book a ticket just to be able to pass this road. The road exists, unfortunately, the sun does not.

The drive is still spectacular. Passing by Saint Mary Lake with Wild Goose Island to Logan Pass.

Unfortunately, it is so crowded here in the morning that we cannot find a parking spot.

The drive down to Mac Donald Lake is equally spectacular, unfortunately the weather isn’t cooperating fully, and it rains from time to time.

Lake McDonald is the largest lake in Glacier National Park; 16 kilometers long and 144 meters deep. Lake McDonald fills a basin carved by glaciers from the ice age and is a classic glacial formation.

By midday, we finally have some luck and can take a break in the sun by the lake.

Our accommodation, the most expensive on the trip, is a cabin with a view of Mc Donald Creek.

Once again small and actually outrageous for the price, but as everywhere, location matters.

At least we can cook in front of the cabin again. In the evening, the sun actually comes out again, and we enjoy the view of the lake.
