Koh Lipe (Maldives of Thailand)

প্ৰকাশিত: 19.10.2018

On Friday, 12.10.18, our journey continued. We packed our backpacks and flew from Chiang Mai to Hat Yai. Hat Yai is used as a transit point for travelers to travel in all directions of Thailand by long-distance or minibus. From the bus station in Hat Yai, we took a minibus towards Satun. There we had to 'emergency land' for a night because we could only take the speedboat to the beautiful island of Koh Lipe the next day.

On Saturday, we started very early in the morning to Pakbara Pier. From here you can reach all popular islands (Koh Lipe, Koh Phi Phi, Koh Turatao, etc.). The journey from Pakbara to Koh Lipe by speedboat took about 1.5 hours and was far from comfortable ;-). But the wild ride is definitely worth it. From a distance, you could already see the white beaches and the turquoise blue water that the island is so famous for. Since we arrived at high tide, we were able to jump directly into the sea from the speedboat and walk the remaining steps to the beach through the pleasantly warm water. At low tide, we would have been picked up by longtail boats from the speedboat.

From the beach, we were then taken to the hotel by a 'taxi', if you can call it that; it is actually a scooter with a sidecar. Our hotel was located at the highest point of Koh Lipe and directly on the cliffs, which is why it had the appropriate name 'The Cliff'.

From then on, we fully enjoyed island life. Swimming at the beach, chilling in the many cool beach bars, strolling through the small shopping street 'Walking Street', and of course going out for delicious food. We had beautiful weather during the week we were on Koh Lipe, except for the last day. On the last day, we got to experience the tropical rain of Thailand. Koh Lipe was literally flooded. The small unpaved streets were barely passable, and it was generally difficult to get from A to B. Nevertheless, we didn't want to let the rain spoil our last evening on the island and found a nice little bar where we could comfortably observe the rain from inside.

The one week in paradise went by faster than we hoped, so on Friday we packed our things together to continue our journey. Our next stop will be Krabi...
