Arrival - finally arrived!

نشرت: 26.10.2017

13 hours on the plane, 3 hours at the airport, and 2 hours in the car brought me to Lima, the capital of Peru in South America, for the first time on 24.10. I want to learn Spanish, travel, and conduct a scientific study here for the next 4 months.

In such a distant country, the first things that caught my attention when I arrived at my host family's house were the most ordinary: there are two front doors (one on the street, behind it is a courtyard, and then the second door to the house), there are no door handles but buttons, and the faucets don't open as usual.

The first of two front doors...
The first of two front doors...

Due to the time difference, I could hardly do anything on my first day, so I only got a taste of the Peruvian air outside my sweet little room on the second day.

A 10-minute walk takes me from a fairly quiet residential area directly into the chaos of Lima city. Thousands of cars, crowded shops, and lots of people shouting from all directions. It was admittedly very difficult for me to look at the shops, speak Spanish, and remember the way. I think I'll need to ask someone to show me the way to the supermarket again...

Despite all the impressions, what stood out to me in my neighborhood away from the main roads were the pretty Mediterranean houses, the trees and flowers that look so different from Germany, and the birds that sing so differently.

And that's why I'm particularly looking forward to exploring the streets and paths around my home in the next few days.
