Lima - Guest at Maido - Top10 worldwide

Wɔatintim: 07.03.2022

The Maido (https://maido.pe/) has been an institution in Lima and on the map of fine dining for years. As we are both big foodies, we couldn't resist visiting this special place.

The restaurant is run by Mitsuharu Tsumura, who founded the restaurant in Lima in 2009. The journey there is very exciting and also shows what is possible with passion and hard work - here is a short but very informative video portrait https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOWZJ-6ovaE

Our evening on site started at 6:30 p.m. and just entering the restaurant is an experience, as you are immediately greeted by a large number of (sushi) chefs with a short call. The atmosphere of the restaurant is very pleasant and not too formal, considering that it has been among the top 10 in the world for years, currently ranking 7th. The wine list made us smile a bit, as we also found some white wines from Austria (Veltliner and Gemischter Satz), but after consulting with the sommelier, we decided on a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile. Of course, you can also choose wine pairing. Price-wise, the restaurant is very fair in comparison at this level. The Nikkei Experience set menu is priced at 499 Sol (approximately €125), wine pairing would be an additional €85.

We have documented the sequence of dishes photographically, and in total, we spent about 3 hours on site and experienced several culinary highlights. The restaurant naturally has a strong focus on fish and seafood, which should be taken into account, but there is also a vegetarian menu available if desired. We won't reveal any more, simply experience it for yourself when you are in the city and value good food, it's worth the money!
