Three days after I came back from Madagascar, I was astonished to discover: It's Christmas Eve!
Hard to believe with 30°C and sunshine, but even a second look at the calendar didn't change the fact. Despite the lack of Christmas spirit, we of course had something planned for the holidays.
On December 23rd Some friends were in our shared apartment and we spent the day at the pool. In the evening we went to a beach club in Saint-Gilles . Three of us also thought it was great, but Fabian and I are unfortunately not clubbers at all and therefore took a deck of cards with us to the club as a precaution. As we had feared, after an hour we left the other three on the dance floor and sat down together on the beach, where we went to sleep after playing a few rounds of cards.
So it happened that I woke up on the beach on Christmas Eve - there is nothing worse :D
From there we quickly went shopping at the market and then drove home. There we girls quickly got ready so we could go to Christmas mass, while Fabian prepared the meal at home: toast Hawaii and tiramisu. Maybe not very Christmassy, but with fresh pineapple it's really cool
The church was really an absolute highlight. There was a lot of singing, clapping and celebrating, the atmosphere was great and afterwards we were so emotional that we all hugged each other. That was really nice and finally put me in the Christmas spirit :)
When we got home we ate, drank and splashed around in the pool. Overall, a really nice evening, although not very Christmassy.
While the others then on December 25th. When we flew to Mauritius , I was unfortunately in bed with a fever and everything. This went on for three days during which I really couldn't do anything. That was a bit of a shame, but it actually happened at the best possible time - always stay positive!
So the time until New Year's Eve passed really uneventfully. On December 31st We (the same group as at Christmas) drove south to Saint-Pierre , where we rented an AirBnB with a jacuzzi. Of course, we jumped straight in there until we started cooking and pre-heating. To eat there was cheese fondue as well as salad and lots of fruit. There was also an absolutely improvised tiramisu and chocolate fondue, which was really delicious :)
We didn't skimp on drinking either: that evening, the five of us drank a liter of rum, two bottles of wine, two bottles of Aperol, half a bottle of Blue Curacao and some Amaretto. Accordingly drunk, I went to the beach, where I was able to see the most beautiful fireworks display of my life so far. It was really so beautiful, very colorful and simply enchanting.
Afterwards, however, I immediately fell asleep on the beach, which is why the three of us went back to the AirBnB while Celine and Julia continued partying.
The next morning we slept in and generally lazed around, as unfortunately we couldn't go to the beach due to the weather :(
Overall, the festive season was definitely very different than usual and also a little sad, because on days like these you really miss your family and friends at home. Nevertheless, I think I had the best possible time and found both days really nice. I laughed a lot and enjoyed the company - and at the same time didn't have to freeze. It really wasn't bad :)
