Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a coastal town on the Caribbean side and a surfing community. There are great beaches here such as Playa Negra or Playa Chiquita. The fruit stands along the street are overflowing with exotic fruits such as breadfruit, guayaba or mamon (lychee).
At a construction site we came across a "traffic light" - the green sign is put up when you can drive and when the other side is clear, it is simply turned to red and someone sits here all day... There are also little tuk tuks driving around everywhere, taking tourists or surfers or whoever around. Bananas are plentiful, they grow everywhere on the side of the road. We spent a while on the beach and then treated ourselves to smoothies, which are also available on every corner here... Many people who are traveling to Panama also stop in Puerto Viejo, as this is where the last accommodation and restaurants are before the border.
