Day 38 Etosha National Park

Ishicilelwe: 20.05.2017

The day today is all about game drives. We had the whole day to look out for animals in the park.

Buddy sprang back to life in the morning, as if he had recovered during the night. It was no longer a problem to notice. So our photo hunt began at sunrise.

The day started off great. After a few impalas, klipspringers, and wildebeests, we even found a small pride of lions. They were comfortably lying under a tree in the shade.

Throughout the morning, we came across various photo opportunities.

But then reality hit us again. Suddenly, we couldn't drive faster than 40 km/h and shortly after, when we wanted to turn on the road, the car didn't budge. No matter how much gas we gave, Buddy didn't move an inch forward or backward. We were stranded in the middle of nowhere. According to the map, we were 38 or 32 km away from the nearest campsites... And we didn't have any cell phone reception either.

Berni then took matters into his own hands and climbed onto the roof of the car. He was actually able to establish a connection. We contacted the car rental company, who were supposed to organize everything further. By that time, we had already been stuck for a good hour. We were then told over the phone that someone was on their way to rescue us. We waited 2 ½ hours in the midday heat of Namibia for our saviors and were not allowed to leave the car. Unfortunately, or fortunately, no animals kept us company while we waited.

We were then towed to the reception of our campsite.

When checking in, we were assigned a tent site and told to set up our camp there. Unfortunately, the site was about 300 meters away from where our car was now parked. Well, we had no choice but to push our approximately 2-ton vehicle to our campsite. The path was not a clean asphalt road, but rather a moderately good gravel road. And unfortunately, it was also slightly uphill at times.

A few sweaty minutes later, our car stood where it was supposed to be. Since we couldn't go on a game drive this afternoon, we spent the time differently. For example, doing laundry.

We then enjoyed the sundowner at the watering hole near the campsite, which we could reach on foot.
