Tuscany 2001 - Day 11

Ishicilelwe: 08.06.2024

Tuesday, 19.6.2001

There was a thunderstorm during the night and I didn't have any dreams either.

The hustle and bustle in the various rooms begins at 8 (!). Washing dishes, making breakfast, looking for travel items, personal hygiene.

And so we set off at 10 in the direction of Pitigliano in glorious, picture-perfect weather. The journey is relaxed and comfortable. Out of consideration for my passengers, I glide over the hills and through the numerous bends. In between, we suddenly come to a four-lane, well-maintained road, but only about 2-3 km long. Then it ends again. Unbelievable!

The culmination of the lack of coordination by the Italian road builders is the stretch from the A1 / Val di Chiana to Siena, which we drive on on the way home. They have been working on expanding the road to four lanes there for decades. Now parts of the route are overgrown again, and then there are 500m of asphalt / 10m of nothing / 500m of asphalt. Will we live to see the road finished?

On to Pitigliano . Nice little town with a gigantic view from the western side. The town sits on a tuff rock and in front of it is a lush green valley. In the end, hunger drives us into a small trattoria where we eat and drink very well. And cars and mopeds squeeze through this tiny little alley every now and then. But no Piaggio Ape, even though almost everyone in the town has one. The black cat on the corner is not bothered in the slightest, he continues to sleep even when the cars drive past about 20cm away from him.

Pitigliano

Immediately after leaving the trattoria we are surprised by a thunderstorm / heavy rain and this time we head back on the motorway.

A little more shopping and buying food for dinner and then home, because the weather is getting worse again. At home, the storm has left a battlefield on the terrace and the basilico stick has also flown far away.

Nevertheless, a big meal is prepared in the warm room. A da capo of the previous masterpieces from illungo e la volpe. This time, in keeping with the inhospitable weather, a somewhat heartier sirloin loaded with bacon and onions on rocket and accompanied by the 5000 Chianti from Nanni - absolutely excellent!!!

Everything is eaten until the pants almost burst. Tomorrow has to be nice.

So once again I go to bed with a full belly.
