Today we drove along the coast towards Henningvaer.
Henningsvær is a town in the Norwegian municipality of Vågan in the province of Nordland. The fishing village has 507 inhabitants. In 1934, the two islands were connected by a pier. This improved conditions at Henningsvær's port, which then grew into one of the most important fishing ports in the Lofoten archipelago.Since 1983, Henningsvær has been connected to Austvågøya by two bridges. The Fylkesvei 816 leads over several bridges from Henningsvær north to Austvågøya. There the road joins the European route 10 (E10). By connecting Henningvær to the Norwegian road network, tourism became more important for the fishing village. The town has an artificial turf football pitch, the photo of which was voted the best of the year by National Geographic in the cities category in 2017. Since then, the field has been considered one of the most beautiful sports fields in the world. On the way back we wanted to visit the Vågan kirke in Kabelvåg, but unfortunately it was closed.
The Vågan kirke (German: Vågan Church) is a religious building in Kabelvåg on the Lofoten Islands in Norway. The church was built in 1898 in the neo-Gothic style to replace a previous building from 1798. Due to its size, with space for 1200 worshipers, it is also called Lofot Cathedral. It is the largest wooden church north of Trondheim. The architect was Carl Julius Bergstrøm. The building was built by the timber construction company Jacob Digre from Trondheim. The components were prefabricated there and assembled in Kabelvåg.
