And once again, we set off early: pick up the rental car and head off to Niagara Falls. What can you say about a tourist attraction that everyone knows? Except that it's naturally a magnificent natural spectacle when you see it for yourself, feel it – and get wet.
Wet fun on the boat
First, we walked a little way downstream to the boats we'd booked, eager to get thoroughly soaked. We queued, put on our red rain ponchos, and boarded the boat. A truly wet and wild experience! You get incredibly close to the falls and are awestruck by the sheer power of nature. By the end, we were completely drenched under the ponchos – shoes and socks included.
Foam and Yellow: Journey Behind the Falls
After that, we walked along the riverbank towards the falls. The closer we got, the more we regretted having taken off our raincoats. By the time we reached the falls, we were completely soaked again – this time from the spray that the wind had blown up from the falls.
After an expensive, very American-style snack, we headed to the next highlight: Journey Behind the Falls. More queuing, this time putting on a yellow cape and entering the tunnels behind the falls. Finally, we arrived at a terrace right next to and opposite the falls. That was definitely the highlight! We were standing in the rock, practically right next to the cascading torrents of water.
A bitter loss
This day was already quite special at the start of our trip – unfortunately, also in a negative way: I lost my action camera at the end of the day. Aside from the material loss, most of the day's video and photo material is irretrievably lost. That was a real downer. But there's no point in getting upset about something that can't be changed. What remains are a few photos from our phones and the wonderful memories in our minds.
