After a delicious breakfast in Dambulla, we got on a bus again and made our way to Trincomalee . After lots of culture and temples, it was time for some sea!
The bus ride was pretty warm, loud and crowded. We were all the more looking forward to the cool water and quiet sandy beaches. Our accommodation (Coconut Leaf Shadow Guest) is located 30 minutes outside Trincomalee on the beautiful Nilaveli Beach .
However, it wasn't completely quiet, as Nilaveli is also a popular excursion destination for the locals on Saturdays. However, they mostly stay on a section of beach guarded by lifeguards, so that 20 m further on we are actually almost alone. At a small beach bar there was a papaya juice to strengthen us. Unfortunately there are no photos of this - the cell phone had to stay in the room and the pictures in our heads :) But we can tell you that we're going to the coast again in the next few weeks.
In the evening we were treated to delicious food in a small restaurant - everything was freshly cooked for us for an hour and Magnus was in seafood heaven.
The next morning we were picked up by the TukTuk at 5.45am. Dolphin and whale watching was on the program. There was another German couple on the boat with us. And as luck would have it, they come from Kalrsruhe and the girl also works at EnBW.
Our luck with the animals continues - we saw hundreds of dolphins, even with small babies. And then actually a fin whale! We returned to our accommodation completely energized and fortified ourselves with a delicious breakfast. But not for long, because we soon had to go snorkeling. We saw some colorful fish, but a thunderstorm was approaching and the water was already quite turbulent.
We ended the afternoon relaxing with a walk on the beach and were cooked for in the accommodation in the evening. Incredibly delicious shrimp and vegetable curry with dosa (Sri Lanka's version of a pancake).
Tomorrow the alarm clock will ring very early again - because we're heading further inland to Kandy!
