Spontaneously and quite spontaneously, we fly to Fiji for a long weekend. To the warmth. We stay on the main island of Viti Levu and explore the west coast between Nadi and Sigatoka.
Originally, there were many different tribes with their own languages on the islands that now belong to Fiji. Today Fijian, Hindu-Fijian and English are spoken. There have also been many political unrests and coups, since 2014 there is a democracy here. And in 2016 there was a destructive cyclone, but we hardly saw any damage. Although our stay was short, we met many very friendly and interested people here.
There are plenty of things to do, from all kinds of water sports activities to hiking, culture (market / old villages / dances / ceremonies), gardens and action (zipline tours). Explorations on our own are a bit more exciting as the 'attractions' are not well signposted. Most visitors travel with local providers or taxis.
We feel very well taken care of with everything we have experienced and we have experienced a lot in the few days - the pictures speak for themselves...
